New Information

This weekend I will make some time to scan pictures and post them and I will also try and get the info I gleaned from rootsweb.com organized and posted. I found a lot of info there that was free. It carries a direct line of the Dalrymples back to Scotland in the 17th century. Also if things pan out on the Word side there could be some Welsh in our blood.

I’m not getting any comments so I’m not sure if anyone is actually reading any of this, but it makes for good practice.

Born @ 1838 in Ms. Died August 23, 1913. Married to Charles S. Word and bore 8 children, John D.(1857), Lucius H.(1860), Florence B. Knight(1862), Charles E.(1864), Robert L.(1867), Lillian M. Oliphant-Crosby,(1870), Joseph P.(1873), Eliza J. (Jenny) Knoerr(1875)

Charles S. Word

Born @1824 or 1825 in Alabama. Died May 9, 1913 in Memphis, Tn. Married to Drucilla E. of Ms. they had 8 children, John D.(1857), Lucius H.(1860), Florence B. Knight(1862), Charles E.(1864), Robert L.(1867), Lillian M. Oliphant-Crosby,(1870), Joseph P.(1873), Eliza J. (Jenny) Knoerr(1875)

He was a veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars.

Amanda Minnier Dalrymple

Born February 6, 1879 in Wataga, Il. Died on September 27, 1941 in Memphis, Tn. Married to Clyde H. Dalrymple on November 1, 1899 in Wataga, Il. Mother of 5 children, Ruth Marie Butler, Jesse Marjorie Gaskill, Raymond Minnier Dalrymple, Dorothy Louise Costas, and Agnes Lucille Dalrymple.

Clyde Hargar Dalrymple

Born August 19,1876 in Laharpe, Il. Married to Amanda Minnier on November 1, 1899 in Wataga, Il. Died November 1, 1949 in Memphis, Tn.

He was a Corporal with the 7th Company U.S. Volunteer Signal Corps during the Spanish American War.

He was father to 5 children, Ruth Butler, Marjorie Gaskill, Raymond Dalrymple, Dorothy Costas and Agnes Lucille Word.

Lillian (Lillie) M. Word-Oliphant-Crosby

Born @ 1870 in either Ms. or Al. Married to John Oliphant and had 1 son Robert A. Word. Separated a year later and divorced. She took back her maiden name and moved to Memphis where she eventually met and married Ed Crosby.  She died in Memphis.

John Oliphant

From Batesville, MS. Father to Robert A. Word. Married to Lillian M. Word until their divorce around 1895. Had at least 1 other daughter by another marriage, Lucille Oliphant Hendrix of Batesville, Ms.

Fay Jones Word

Born October 9, 1895 in Memphis, Tn. Died June 14, 1973 in Memphis, Tn. Wife of Robert A. Word and mother to Charles R. Word and Drucilla Word Moxley.

Robert A. Word(Oliphant)

Born December 14, 1893 in Batesville, Ms. as Robert Oliphant. He had his name legally changed to Word following the birth of Charles Robert Word, Jr. on February 26, 1945*. He died on April 20, 1961 in Memphis, Tn. He was married to Fay Jones and they had 2 children, Charles Robert Word and Drucilla Word Moxley.

He was about a year old when his parents separated and eventually divorced.

Agnes Lucille Dalrymple

Born February 20, 1918 in Galesburg, Il to Clyde Hargar Dalrymple and Amanda Minnier Dalrymple. Passed on November 20, 1979. She was married to Charles Robert Word on November 1,1941 and mother to their 3 children.
